West Valley College
Another online court-reporting school is West Valley College. Success is the focus of West Valley. The goal is to assist students in building a future for themselves so they can positively impact the world by contributing their skills, motivation, and excitement. It achieves this by interacting with students one-on-one as much as we can.
The Court Reporters Board of California has recognized West Valley College's Court Reporting and Captioning Department for over 40 years of providing high-quality career training programs. Innovative techniques are taught to all program participants to assist them in fulfilling state and national certification requirements.
The Court Reporting and Captioning program provides free career training and education in court reporting, emphasizing reporting in deposition and courtroom settings. Students who complete the program are also prepared for careers in office support technology, transcription, and captioning. Court reporters maintain all court proceedings and turn in their verbatim records as the official transcript; the state licenses the program.
At West Valley College, synchronous in-person instruction is provided via top-notch video conferencing to both on- and off-campus students. Every class is available in real-time through Zoom video conferencing. Certain courses might be offered simultaneously via Zoom and on campus. To attend off-campus, you will need a Windows computer, laptop, tablet, or phone, a strong internet connection, a microphone, and a camera (typically built into devices).
Each certificate of completion is intended to help students get ready for the workforce, from entry-level jobs to jobs requiring advanced skills in captioning and court reporting. The certificates should be completed by students in the following order because each one builds on the previous one:
- Editing
- Scoping
- Office Assistance and Transcription: Typewritten or Spoken Words
- Educational Transcribing
- Court Reporting
