Assassination (2015)
Assassination, the follow-up to The Thieves, in which Jun Ji Hyun appeared, is the director's first film in a while. The movie, which is set in 1930, recounts a significant turning point in Korean history. At this period, Korea was occupied by the Japanese Empire. To destroy this regime, a provisional Korean government had to be set up in Manchuria in collaboration with patriotic revolutionaries. The Assassination portrays the heartwarming tale of revolutionary fighters who have their faces covered but fight in silence for their nation. Commander Yeom Seok Jin enlisted the help of three individuals—sniper Ahn Ok Yun, machine gunner Soksapo, and explosives expert Hwang Deok Sam—to carry out an assassination attempt on an enemy general. The assassination team was defeated, however, when the Japanese military learned about this operation.
Jun Ji Hyun's character Ahn Ok Yun is a skilled female markswoman. She and the other envoys are given the task of killing a senior Japanese army officer. Dramatic moments and wonderfully shot action scenes pepper the entire movie. Additionally, Jun Ji Hyun had a superb embodiment, which enhanced the perception of a female marksman as someone who is incredibly fearless and strong.
