Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro

The magnificent Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro is the city's primary attraction (Cathedrale Notre Dame de la Paix or Basilica Notre Dame). And it is definitely one of the most visited monuments in Cote d’Ivoire. Yamoussoukro's basilica is the world's largest Christian church, larger than St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. It is regarded as one of the most important monuments in Côte d'Ivoire.

It was modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican, and while it seats somewhat fewer people than St. Peter's, it has a taller dome and a bigger surface area. The stained-glass windows are also breathtaking. Pope John Paul II dedicated the Notre Dame Basilica.
