Big Mouth
Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett's Big Mouth, set in a Westchester middle school, masterfully nails the uncomfortable shift from child to adolescent that we've all worked so hard to forget. With the aid of their "hormone monsters," a group of pre-teens handles puberty, their burgeoning sexualities, relationships, and all that fun adolescent stuff in the program. Every teenage illness has a fantasy representation, whether it's the Shame Wizard or the Depression Kitty, and these mythical figures are entwined with the youngsters' suburban reality.
Big Mouth is the right mix of honest, relatable, and entertaining, and the fact that it's animated lets they forget they're growing up all over again. Despite the fact that the primary protagonists are 12-13 years old, the program is clearly aimed at an adult audience, with plenty of sex jokes and graphic visuals. Big Mouth is the program for you if you want to remember and wish you had a hormone monster to blame your adolescent issues on, or if you just want a good chuckle.
