Birds of Prey
"Birds of Prey" truly has it all: Harley Quinn, eggs, sandwiches, Ewen McGregor's finest performance of his career, and are those a sequence from "Cabaret"? (No, it's simply Jurnee Smollett-Ball dominating).
The debut film of director Cathy Yan is a mixture of vicious beatdowns and frantic humor - a film as enthrallingly crafted as the messy breakfast food that propels its story. It is also Margot Robbie's strongest performance as Harley Quinn, in which she reshapes - but does not reboot - the character's basic core.
In the Warner Bros film "Suicide Squads," Harley is Joker's glistening accessory. "Birds of Prey" avoided this terrible past to get to the exciting action sequences more quickly, unlike some worse DC films. Instead, Robbie and Yan are motivated by Harley's divorce from Joker to let Harley emotionally unravel. Harley gets intoxicated in nightclubs, develops deep connections with people, acquires a hyena, and continues to kick a lot of enemies. Without Robbie's acting and amazing stunt work, none of that would work!
Bires of Prey shows us the differences between a male and a female director, and is certainly a must-watch for any devoted feminist. DC, please give us the second movie already!
