Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood
Director Quentin Tarantino aspires to create - or, at the least - rewrite history. His World War II film "Inglorious Bastards" distorted reality, whereas "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" completely changed the history of Hollywood.
"Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" wraps the golden age of Hollywood around the necks of the film's protagonists and its creative crew. The main character Rick Dalton cannot be a matinee idol permanently - and neither can Leonardo DiCaprio, as the film's spectacular "The Getaway" song remix demonstrates. This concept imparts a sensation of breaching the fourth wall to each scene and casting choice, including Margot Robbie's performance as actress Sharon Tate.
Tate, like Robbie herself, was a similarly promising newbie in the acting field. She spends most of Tarantino's film living a regular Los Angeles existence, frequenting nightclubs, appreciating the city, and sometimes shooting projects. This enables us to see the character Sharon Tate as a dazzling individual she really was, and not a pale imitation. And then, gradually, the movie gives us a sense of who she may have been if unfortunate events had not occurred.
It is a fantastic testament to both Quentin Tarantino and Robbie that these incredible moments - seemingly lacking stakes at first glance - only improve with the audience's repeated viewings. Tate was unable to escape the tribulations of life, but "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood" allows her to do so. Thanks to the actress' incredible performance, this is among the best movies of Margot Robbie.
