BNP Paribas
Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP, "National Bank of Paris") and Paribas, historically known as the Banque de Paris et des Pays-Bas merged to establish BNP Paribas, a French multinational banking firm, in 2000. BNP Paribas S.A. is the full name of the group's parent company.
The bank is structured into three main business areas: Commercial, Personal Banking & Services (CPBS), Investment & Protection Services (IPS), and Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB), with 190,000 employees as of February 2021. The company is listed on Euronext Paris's First Market and a part of the Euro Stoxx 50 stock market index, as well as the French CAC 40 index.
After HSBC, BNP Paribas is the second-largest banking group in Europe and ranks ninth overall (by assets, December 2021). After the 2008 financial crisis, it rose to rank among the top five banks globally. The Financial Stability Board views this bank as one with systemic importance.
