Sanofi S.A. is a worldwide healthcare and pharmaceutical corporation headquartered in the French capital city of Paris. The company began in 1973 when it was founded; in 1999, it joined with Synthélabo to form what is now known as Sanofi-Synthélabo. In 2004, Sanofi-Synthélabo combined with Aventis, and the resulting company was renamed Sanofi-Aventis. Both of these companies resulted from multiple other mergers in the past. In May 2011, the company went back to using the name Sanofi. The stock market index that tracks the Euro Stoxx 50 includes the corporation as a component.
