Pomelos may improve heart health by lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels, two blood lipids associated with heart disease. In one 21-day rat research, supplementation with concentrated pomelo extract lowered triglyceride levels by up to 21%, total cholesterol by up to 6%, and LDL (bad) cholesterol by up to 41%. Another study found that pomelo may lower blood lipids by preventing cholesterol from being fully absorbed by the body.


The more human study is needed, however, to show a link between pomelo fruit and heart health. If you use statin medicines for high cholesterol, you should avoid pomelo. Pomelos, like grapefruits, contain furanocoumarins, which can interfere with statin metabolism.
