The Bucharest Institution of Economic Studies (ASE) is a Romanian state university. The Academy of Higher-Level Commercial and Industrial Studies was established by Royal Decree of Carol I of Romania in 1913.
The Academy of Commercial and Cooperative Studies was formed in 1947 when it was reorganized and combined with the Academy of Cooperative Studies. The Institute for Economic Sciences and Planning was established in 1948, during the Communist era, to emulate Soviet higher education systems.
In 1967, it was renamed the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.
It was Romania's first economic higher education institution and has since grown to become the largest in both Romania and Southeastern Europe.
It is one of the five institutions that comprise the Universitaria Consortium, a collection of prominent Romanian universities.
It has 22,684 undergraduate and postgraduate students spread across 11 faculties: the faculty of business administration in foreign languages, the faculty of administration and public management, the faculty of business and tourism, the faculty of economic cybernetics, the faculty of statistics and informatics, the faculty of accounting and environmental economics, the faculty of finance, the faculty of insurance, the faculty of banking and stock exchange, and the faculty of finance and insurance.
ASE is currently active in a wide range of national and international research projects, and it has established a stellar reputation for its output and academic programs.
Bucharest is Romania's capital and largest city, located in the country's southeast on the banks of the Dambovita River, fewer than 60 kilometers north of the Danube River and the Bulgarian border.
Furthermore, the Ministry of National Education in Romania has formally approved Bucharest University of Economic Studies.
