Carnival

The Curacao Carnival was organized by a group of Venezuelans who were visiting the island temporarily. According to "De Curaçaosche Courant" in 1901, the festivities took place in an exclusive elite club. According to oral history sources, "The Jolly Fellows Society" was the driving force behind the first carnival celebrations on the streets, which took place in 1947.

Although Carnival lasts nearly a month, the most memorable moments are concentrated in two major parades: the Gran Marcha and the Marcha di Despedida.

The most noteworthy moments of Carnival are concentrated in two large parades: the Gran Marcha (The Grand Parade) and the Marcha di Despedida (The Farewell March). During the Gran Marcha, tourists and residents alike throng the streets to cheer on the parade of costumed dancers and performers. The Children's and Teen's Carnival Parades join the Gran Marcha, making it a fun and family-friendly event.

Consider a festival in which Curaçao's already bright streets bloom, creating a dazzling tapestry of colors, music, and merriment. Traditional music wafts through town, accompanied by jubilant talk and the tantalizing aromas of regional cuisine. The music and mirth are complemented by elaborate costumes and similarly complex floats, as well as colors that rival the Caribbean's dazzling turquoise waters. Carnival is the occasion.

Though carnivals can be found all over the world, Curaçao hosts the largest and longest-running Carnival events in the Caribbean. Curaçao has remained one of the southern Caribbean's best-kept secrets, as has its vibrant Carnival season. Until recently.
