Cerro Negro Volcano

If you are visiting Nicaragua, the Cerro Negro volcano must be your first priority. This active volcano is roughly 10 kilometers from Malpaisillo town in the Cordillera de los Maribios mountain range. This is one of Central America's newest volcanoes, having last erupted in April 1850. Exploring this unusual volcano is a fascinating experience.

A journey to the top of Central America's youngest volcano is well worth the effort. There are a few areas to slide down, but you will get amazing views of the surrounding area. Although the descent is straightforward, there are a few steep spots. Because some of these paths are somewhat steep, you will want to travel slowly and at your own leisure. If you are not in a rush, renting a bicycle to explore the neighborhood is another option.

From the interior, there is no better way to witness a volcano. Cerro Negro boasts a slope that will keep you delighted for hours if you enjoy skiing or snowboarding. The volcanic sands are ideal for running, and it only takes ten minutes to complete the experience.
