Chicken Behaviour and Welfare
"Chicken Behaviour and Welfare" is the next name on the list today. This course covers the fundamentals of chicken behavior and welfare, as well as the behavioral and physiological indicators that can be used to assess welfare in hobby flocks to commercial farms. Although many of the principles apply to other types of poultry, the focus is primarily on laying hens and meat chickens (broilers). People who own chickens as pets or keep a small hobby flock, commercial egg and chicken meat producers, veterinarians, and vet nurses are likely to be interested in the course.
Staff from Scotland's Rural College (SRUC), the University of Glasgow, and St David's Poultry Team are teaching this course. After learning this course, you are expected to gain some objectives, including explaining the sensory perception and motivation of avians, defining the main patterns of poultry behavior, defining welfare and explaining how welfare standards are established, evaluating the welfare of chickens using behavioral and physiological methods, and recognizing common chicken welfare issues.
