Citadelle Laferrière
The Citadelle Laferriere is a spectacular mountainside stronghold that was erected in the aftermath of Haiti's independence to safeguard the country from French invasion. It is, for Haitians, a renowned emblem of their strength when confronted with danger, and it is still in much the same exquisite condition as it was back then. The Citadelle Laferriere is located on Haiti's northern shore, on the summit of Mount Bonnet an L'Eveque, and offers stunning views of the surrounding verdant fields.
This Catholic Cathedral in Cap-Haitien is a lovely and serene spot to unwind after visiting the historic town's surrounding landscape. The church is surrounded by a small park, and the tall white walls stand out against the rows of poor cottages all around. The cathedral's high-domed interior is equally beautiful from the inside and out.
