Coche Island
Isla de Coche (Coche Island) is one of three islands that make up Venezuela's Nueva Esparta State, located between Isla Margarita and the mainland in the Caribbean. Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1498, which was inhabited by the Waika Rio indigenous people. The early 16th century saw the first attempts to establish Coche. A prior population of refugees arrived from Nueva Cádiz, which had been wrecked by a tropical storm on Cubagua Island.
In 1574, all of the settlers, especially the pearl daughters, left Isla de Coche. The next successful settlement occurred in the nineteenth century, and Coche is still inhabited today. The island is divided into two municipalities, both of which have San Pedro de Coche as their capital.
Come and enjoy getting up close and personal with the beautiful island of Coche. With the Caribbean Sea's crystal-clear waters and the most magnificent white sands, the island appears to be a paradise. Margarita Island is approximately a 35-minute trip away. If you want to relax and enjoy a serene holiday away from the rush and bustle of the city, this is the place to be.
