Orchila Island
Orchila Island ( La Orchila ) is a military base off the coast of Venezuela, north of Caracas. It has plenty of beaches, including one where the sand is distinctly pink. On this island, there is a presidential resort and a military residence, mainly consisting of elevated houses made of logs.
La Orchila and neighboring islands like Los Roques were legally taken seized by the Spanish Crown in 1589 by decree of Spanish governor Diego de Osorio. The islands were considered part of the Province of Venezuela at the end of the 16th century. The island is noted for its charming beauty and is heavily protected by the Venezuelan government.
