College of Natural Resources ( Royal University of Bhutan)
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forests founded the College of Natural Resources in 1992 to train Extension Agents. The training approach is based on the Bhutanese farming system, in which crops, cattle, and forests are all important components of rural existence.
The policy of developing the Renewable Natural Resources (RNR) sector was evaluated by the then Ministry of Agriculture in the late 1980s. Integration of training programs from other ministries under the Ministry of Agriculture was one of the most important outcomes of the evaluation. With funding from the Swiss Development Corporation (SDC), Helvetas, and the Royal Government of Bhutan, the National Agriculture Training Institute in Paro, the Royal Veterinary Institute in Serbithang, and the Bhutan Forestry Institute in Taba were merged, and the Natural Resources Training Institute (now known as the College of Natural Resources) was established at Lobesa.
