Columbia
In the cities of Colombia, people often organize an interesting traditional custom, which is the custom of "burning the old year". Each family will prepare a male doll as a symbol of the old year and put various materials into the doll, sometimes they even put fireworks in to make it more beautiful when burning inside. If someone has items that are associated with a painful memory or bring them bad luck, stuff them into an "old year" doll and dress it up in old house outfits.
Right at the time the bell rings at 12 o'clock on New Year's Eve, each family will bring together "old year" dolls to burn them all. This is an act that symbolizes that the Colombians will forget the sorrows of the past and throw away all the bad luck of the old year. This also means that everyone is ready to welcome a new year with more luck and happiness.
