Nothing is more valuable than space in Manhattan. Finding a hotel that is away from the sheer influx of people is priceless when battling the daily rush of claustrophobia from the subway, to museums, to Times Square. Even though it's ideally located in the center of the Financial District, the Conrad Hotel in Battery Park serves as an ideal escape from the city with its towering 15-story, marble-floored, almost Star Trek-esque lobby, plush suites, and open views of the Hudson. There are 463 large two-room suites at the Hilton offshoot, each with a parlor room and a shower that feels bigger than the hotel's elevators.

A luxurious Hudson River View suite provides a tranquil view of New York's waters. You can also see these waters from the breathtaking Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar, which serves light fare and free selfie sticks for the ultimate in high-flying satisfaction. The drinks are certainly whimsical but may not be worth the $18 price tag. For example, the bourbon-based Sunglasses At Night is heavier than its lighthearted description would imply.

The Conrad's more than 2,000 tasteful works of art are the real attraction, especially the 100 by 80-foot Loopy Doopy (Blue and Purple) by Sol LeWitt that hangs in the atrium lobby. LeWitt's example establishes the tone for the hotel's design, which also includes a vibrant Topsy Turvy by Pat Steir by the Gallery Ballroom.

The hotel doesn't have a pool, but it does have a well-kept 24-hour fitness center, a gift shop, and even a popular with locals barbershop. The hotel's wine bar and restaurant, Atrio, has many options on its menu, such as the "Ashley Farms" Roasted Half-Chicken ($26) and Homemade Penne ($28), but for the same price, there are restaurants in the nearby neighborhoods that serve much more creative and interesting food and provide better service. Continue to eat at the inexpensive breakfast buffet and schedule your out to dinners.
