Coral Garden

You'll be surprised how much you enjoy your camera on Coral Garden - one of the best dive sites in Jordan, despite the medium-strong current sweeping pretty flat topography. The visibility isn't always as fantastic as it is everywhere in Aqaba, but when you see branching hard corals looming in front of you like a wonderful fairy forest, you'll understand why.

Morays grow huge and plentiful in this habitat, but each coral head appears to have its own ecosystem. The dominating tiny predators here are frogfish, which can be found crawling amid lettuce and fire corals, and a keen eye can spot a crocodilefish and torpedo ray or two roaming the sandy bottom. Schools of reef fish can be found all throughout, but stay close to the coral heads for protection from barracuda and other predators lurking nearby.

If you dive south with the current, you'll be amazed at the sheer diversity of Aqaba's Coral Garden. All you have to do now is be cautious, because this is a vast reef, and you might surface pretty far from our intended departure point (in most cases, a diving boat – to dive from shore here, you'll need to pay the Royal Diving Club 10 dinar for access to their facilities and swim out from their pier).

Because there's a lot to view and the nicest corals are found at somewhat deeper depths, Coral Garden is an ideal site to dive or train with Nitrox (EANx) to lengthen bottom time.
