Jordan's southernmost coast, where the Red Sea's warm waters bathe some of the world's most magnificent coral reefs, is the main draw for divers. Despite the ... read more...

  1. One of the best dive sites in Jordan is the Cedar Pride wreck in Aqaba. The ship, a former Lebanese cargo, was severely damaged in a fire in 1982. The ill-fated yacht was deliberately buried roughly 200 meters offshore as an artificial reef for divers after King Abdullah requested it. The debris, which lies on its port side across two reefs at a maximum depth of 27 meters, has been colonized by several hard and soft corals.

The Cedar Pride is marked by a surface buoy and can be reached by boat or beach. The topmost starboard side is 10 meters deep, making it an excellent dive spot for both novice and expert divers. The wreck is mostly intact and measures roughly 80 meters in length, with the best diving on the seaward side. The deck and superstructure are also visible from this vantage point.

The crow's nest is the most notable feature. The multicolored soft corals cover the nest, which shines out against the pure blue water. As you get closer to the hull, you'll come across mushroom ventilation shafts and the main mast. Soft corals are more dispersed in deeper water, but hard corals and schools of fish have taken their place. They include the occasional barracuda. There are plenty of hard reefs and small creatures along the uppermost starboard side as you swim back.

Anemones, table corals, pipefish, and clusters of acropora have made their homes on the hull. This is a fantastic night dive location. Urchins, shrimp, Spanish Dancers, and soft coral crabs were among the animals that swarmed the deck. There are opportunities for experienced wreck divers and photographers. Within the light zone, there are numerous penetration chances.

  2. Aqaba's Japanese Gardens are located just south of the Shipwreck. The Japanese Gardens is regarded as one of the best dive sites in Jordan. It provides excellent diving and snorkeling conditions.

The place has shallow depths and a high concentration of barracudas, sergeants majors, and fusiliers. This makes this diving site the ideal diving destination for divers of all levels of experience. Maintain a 20-meter depth and swim along the reef's edge, passing through bushes of black coral.

If you want to view sharks (White Tip Reef sharks), look to your right in the Gulf of Mexico. A big Gorgonia Fan coral can be found at 23 meters, at the mouth of a gully. Start making your way into the shallows from here, keeping an eye out for local turtles.

The reef starts in shallow water and gently slopes to the spectacularly colorful reef substrate. Large schools of Anthias (Gold fish) play in the golden sun beams while eating plankton around the pinnicles. Lyre Tail Groupers, Royal Angelfish, Moray Eels, and large Clam Shells are also plentiful. Snowflake Morays can be found in an eel grass bed after entering through a narrow gorge in the surrounding reef. Follow the main reef encounter down through shoals of Orange Basselets and Sergeant Majors to 5 meters.

Many corals were transported here from the Saudi border in 2013 to avoid destruction owing to the construction of a new port facility there. Many marked markers can be found. They are now beginning to thrive and reintegrate into the big reef. On this reef, there are two boat moorings, one close the shore and the other on the outer reef.

  3. The Black Rock - one of the best dive sites in Jordan, is extremely accessible. It's perfect for snorkelers and visitors to the area. As a result, a coral garden begins just beneath the surface and spreads outwards for around 30 meters before abruptly disappearing.

The former Tourist Camp is located on the northern side of Wreck Bay. Swim out and pick up the reef on the right, then swim down to the planned depth, which is normally around 25 meters. Massive coral slopes and valleys with massive black coral "bushes" can be found as you travel north. Emperor, Snapper, Crocodile Fish, Lyre Tail, tiny Trigger Fish, Wrasse, Parrot Fish, Lion Fish, Scorpion Fish, Box Fish, a variety of Butterfly Fish, and Turtles are also common visitors.

The reef is teeming with fish, and if you're lucky, you might spot one of the turtles that frequent the area. A new highlight of this dive location is the shoals of small fish that assemble beneath the new jetty at Club Berenice, offering food for several predators such as Lionfish and Barracuda.

Several Frogfish can be found perched on the pier legs if you look closely. The sea grass region to the south is worth a look, with several grey Morays and the occasional Seahorse can be found. Massive coral slopes and valleys with massive black coral "bushes" can be found as you travel north. Hawksbill turtles frequent this area.

  4. You'll be surprised how much you enjoy your camera on Coral Garden - one of the best dive sites in Jordan, despite the medium-strong current sweeping pretty flat topography. The visibility isn't always as fantastic as it is everywhere in Aqaba, but when you see branching hard corals looming in front of you like a wonderful fairy forest, you'll understand why.

Morays grow huge and plentiful in this habitat, but each coral head appears to have its own ecosystem. The dominating tiny predators here are frogfish, which can be found crawling amid lettuce and fire corals, and a keen eye can spot a crocodilefish and torpedo ray or two roaming the sandy bottom. Schools of reef fish can be found all throughout, but stay close to the coral heads for protection from barracuda and other predators lurking nearby.

If you dive south with the current, you'll be amazed at the sheer diversity of Aqaba's Coral Garden. All you have to do now is be cautious, because this is a vast reef, and you might surface pretty far from our intended departure point (in most cases, a diving boat – to dive from shore here, you'll need to pay the Royal Diving Club 10 dinar for access to their facilities and swim out from their pier).

Because there's a lot to view and the nicest corals are found at somewhat deeper depths, Coral Garden is an ideal site to dive or train with Nitrox (EANx) to lengthen bottom time.

  5. This one is going to be fantastic. It's rare to find a site with so much to see in such a tiny area, and this is one of the greatest. Fish life abounds here, from blennies and damsels to butterflies and barracuda, as these pinnacles serve as excellent nurseries - an excellent start for any food chain.

Larger species are scarce because you are so close to shore (only 30m out) and diving in such shallow, bright water, but that means the corals and sponges are teeming with life. The reef has been invaded by tiny invertebrates and schooling fusiliers. Despite the fact that the dive is short, it keeps getting better.

Seven Sisters should be high on your list of priorities if you want to create beautiful, colorful Red Sea diving images to share with your friends and family. After investigating just one pinnacle, several photographers have returned with a full memory card!

If you're in training or looking for a colorful respite from more hard dive conditions, this dive will be ideal. You'll undoubtedly be hesitant to depart from the pillars. But hold on, there's more to see than the Seven Sisters! Another set of pinnacle reefs called locally as the Fairy Ring just a short swim to the west-northwest — not quite huge enough to merit their own site name, but certainly lovely enough to warrant inclusion in your dive itinerary.

  6. Located 5 kilometers south of Aqaba. The Power Station dive site features a vibrant coral plateau that slants from 5 to 20 meters deep, with a sheer wall drop-off that drops to more than 70 meters. The one hundred and two hundred meters contour lines on the chart meet the coast at this point. Advanced divers (or those with a higher certification level) can conduct stunning wall dives from the mooring line to the north or south.

The dive spot is only accessible by boat. Although the dive site's name is not particularly elegant, it is a beautiful wall dive that is executed as a drift from north to south.

Several giant hump-head wrasse and large moray eels have been seen here in the past. Sea turtles and stingrays are frequently seen here. Divers can see a wide variety of soft and hard corals, shrimp, nudibranches, sea stars, and other creatures on the wall. Here, sharks and other large fish are more frequently seen. The wall and drop off are breathtaking, and there is plenty of life on the reef slope and in the shallows to keep you entertained.

    The Power Station
dive site was named after a small oil-fired power station located north of the dive site on the coast road.
This dive site is suitable for divers of all levels, from beginners to experts. Snorkeling is also fantastic here.
