Cotai
Since 2005, Cotai has been a 5.2-square-kilometer (2.0-square-mile) piece of newly reclaimed land on top of Seac Pai Bay between Taipa and Coloane islands in Macau, combining two separate islands into one. The name (which is a mix of Coloane and Taipa) can also apply to the entire new island that was created as a result of the reclamation. In the second sense, the Macau Special Administrative Region currently includes the Macau Peninsula as well as Cotai Island, which is roughly a mile to the south.
Because Macau is so densely populated and space is scarce, Cotai was established to give a new gaming and tourism district, and numerous hotels and casinos can now be found there.
The area is being transformed into the East's Las Vegas Strip, with an estimated investment of $50 billion USD, and will include multiple hotels, sports facilities, golf courses, and other amenities.
