Craftsman CMES500

The Craftsman resurgence is a genuine phenomenon. Craftsman tools have improved significantly after Stanley Black & Decker acquired the firm. We have always admired Craftsman product lines, and we were delighted to discover that this Craftsman CMES500 saw continues the company's strong legacy of producing high-quality power tools.

It weighs roughly a pound less than the Skil (which also appears on this list). That may not seem like much, but it may help make your workday go a little bit smoother - particularly when you also have to haul timber and hammer nails at the same time.

While the Craftsman CMES500 's motor is somewhat less powerful than the Skil's, the difference in cutting capability between the two devices is insignificant. We admit that Skil earned a little advantage over CMES500, given that the side of the CMES500's shoe is not perfectly aligned to the blade, resulting in a minor inaccuracy when running the saw across a square for crosscuts (or ripping with a long straight edge). Fortunately, with a little more attention, it is possible to maintain the saw cutting straight.
