Dahab
South Sinai's city of Dahab is a well-liked vacation spot. Dahab means "gold," and the city was given that name because of its beaches with golden sand. It is regarded as the second most famous city in Sinai, behind Sharm El Sheikh, which is well known throughout the world. Dahab was formerly just a tiny fishing village until the Egyptian government gave it more significance in the late 1990s and began to construct a number of hotels and resorts there. To increase the number of tourists visiting Dahab, the Egyptian government invested heavily in new services and facilities in various parts of the city.
There are many things to do and see in the area, but Dahab's top attraction is the Blue Hole, a world-class diving site that plunges 100 meters into the ocean floor and is home to a variety of unusual, colorful fish that dart through the clear water. If you've never obtained your open water diving certification, there are several dive shops in Dahab that offer the course for some of the most affordable prices in the world. Your hotel or guest house can easily arrange a dive trip for you.
