Eagle Shoals, St John’s
Eagle Shoals - located on St. John’s east end between Ram Head and Leduck Island. This diving location might have challenging surface conditions, but when circumstances are calm, it is an excellent dive. The site’s signature features are arches, tunnels, and caves. The Cathedral" is a multi-entry cave decorated with vibrant sponges and orange cup coral. The shoal is populated by schools of black surgeons, porkfish, and silversides. Look up to see sunshine streaming in through the "skylight." The prevailing southeast waves make this a difficult scuba dive, but when the waters are quiet, this location is spectacular.
The average water temperature is around 82° F (29° C) in the summer and 80° F (26° C) in the winter. Most divers are comfortable in shorty-style wetsuits or rash guards year-round. Visibility is usually between 60 and 100 feet, however, it can occasionally be greater or lower depending on the weather.
