Elton John
Elton John is a vocalist, pianist, and songwriter from England. John has had a very successful solo career during the 1970s, having recorded 31 albums since 1969. He is known as the "Rocket Man" following his 1972 smash single of the same name. John has been collaborating with lyricist Bernie Taupin since 1967, and he is praised by critics and artists for his work in the 1970s, as well as his continuing influence on the music business. John's songs and stage presence have had a huge influence on mainstream music. One of the most successful songwriting collaborations in history is with Taupin.
John has won five Grammy Awards, and five Brit Awards, including one for Outstanding Contribution to Music, two Academy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, a Tony Award, a Laurence Olivier Award, and a Disney Legends Award, and a Kennedy Center Honor. He was placed 49th on Rolling Stone's list of 100 important rock & roll performers in 2004. He is a fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors and was elected into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. In 2019, French President Emmanuel Macron awarded John the Legion d'honneur, France's highest civilian honor, calling him a "melodic genius" and praising his work on behalf of the LGBT community.
