English Premier League (EPL)

English Premier League, commonly known as the English Premier League or EPL, is the highest division of the football league system in England. Consisting of 20 clubs, the league uses the promotion and relegation system with the English Football League (EFL).

The season runs from August to May with each team playing 38 matches (against 19 other teams at home and away). Most matches are played on Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.

Currently, the Premier League is the most watched football tournament in the world, broadcasting in 212 territories to 643 million households and about 4.7 billion television viewers.

During the 2014–15 season, the average Premier League match drew around 36,000 spectators, the second highest in professional football after the Bundesliga with 43,500 spectators. Most football fields are filled with spectators. The Premier League ranks 2nd in the UEFA Coefficient for competitions based on the performance of clubs in European competitions over the five seasons, as of 2018.

A total of 48 English and two Welsh clubs have participated since the first season of the Premier League in 1992, but only seven of them have won the title: Manchester United (13) ), Chelsea (5), Manchester City (5), Arsenal (3), Blackburn Rovers, Leicester City and Liverpool (1). The record for most points in a Premier League season is 100, currently held by Manchester City in the 2017–18 season.
