Escape from Mogadishu

Escape from Mogadishu is led by director Ryoo Seung Wan, who is behind famous works such as Hell Island (The Battleship Island), Run Away For Escape (Veteran)…

The movie Escape from Mogadishu was filmed overseas before 2020, but it won't be officially released until July 2021. Although just aired on July 28, Escape from Mogadishu has received more than 2 million views – a huge box office achievement amid this complicated epidemic. This is also the first Korean movie in 2021 to achieve this excellent number, because now the Korean government is ordering very strict social distancing.

The film is based on a true historical event in January 1991 in Mogadishu, Somalia. Officials of the embassies of South and North Korea teamed up to flee the country when civil war broke out. Han Shin Sung (Kim Yun Seok) is the Korean ambassador to Mogadishu, Somalia. In 1991, the capital Mogadishu and other major cities in Somalia were devastated by the outbreak of civil war. Han Shin Sung, his wife and others were trapped in the embassy building, no weapons, no means of communication. One night, the Korean people knocked on the door asking for help, at this time the North Korean embassy felt the same threat as the South Korean embassy. Therefore, Han Shin Sung, Kang Dae Jin (Jo In Sung) and Rim Yong Su (Heo Joon Ho) work together to find a way to get other people of both countries to escape from Somalia.
