Fight Bacterial Infections and Improve Your Sleep
While no research on the antibacterial benefits of peppermint tea has been conducted, peppermint oil has been demonstrated to successfully destroy germs. Peppermint oil was proven to kill and inhibit the growth of common food-borne germs such as E. coli, Listeria, and Salmonella in pineapple and mango juices in one research. Peppermint oil also destroys germs that cause infections in people, such as Staphylococcus and pneumonia-linked bacteria. Furthermore, research shows that peppermint decreases numerous types of germs often present in the mouth. Menthol has also been shown to have antimicrobial properties.
Because it has no caffeine, peppermint tea is an excellent choice before bed. Furthermore, peppermint's ability to relax muscles may help you relax before night. However, there is little scientific evidence that peppermint improves sleep. In one research, peppermint oil increased the number of time mice spent sleeping after being administered a sedative. However, another study discovered that menthol had no sedative effect. As a result, research on peppermint and sleep is conflicting.
