The company was founded in 1883 as The Bean Spray Pump Company. At this time, the company invents and supplies piston pumps used to spray pesticides for orchards. In 1928, the company changed its name to Food Machinery Corporation and took the abbreviation FMC, and until 1961, the company took the official name of FMC.
