Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. is one of the largest chemical manufacturing companies in Japan, founded in 1913 to solve environmental problems through the production of fertilizers from sulfur dioxide - which is an off-gas through a mine smelting process at the Besshi copper in Niihama, Ehime Prefecture. Sumitomo Chemical is a member company of Sumitomo Group.
Originally, the company was called Sumitomo Fertilizer Manufacturing. In 1934, the company was renamed Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. Currently, Sumitomo Chemical provides products in the fields of Energy & Functional Materials, Agrochemicals, Pharmaceuticals, Petrochemicals & Plastics, Organic Chemicals, IT-related Chemicals.
