Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd.
Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of electric and electronic equipment. Furukawa Ichibei began the company in Yokohama in 1884 with the establishment of a copper-smelting facility and a wire manufacturing factory. Furukawa was a Japanese businessman who built one of Japan's fifteen greatest industrial conglomerates, Furukawa Zaibatsu, to which Furukawa Electric still belongs.
Furukawa Electric's superconducting magnet wires enable CERN's experiments in the search for the Higgs boson. Superconductivity cables are also among the company's offerings. As of July 2013, the corporation had 137 subsidiaries and affiliates across Japan, Europe, North and South America.
