Gifted
In "Gifted," the story revolves around Mary Adler, a brilliant seven-year-old girl with exceptional mathematical abilities. After the tragic death of her mathematician mother, Mary is living with her uncle, Frank Adler, who is doing his best to provide her with a normal childhood away from the pressures of her extraordinary talent. However, it becomes evident that Mary is a child prodigy, much like her mother.
When Mary's mathematical abilities are accidentally discovered at her school, her extraordinary gift comes to the attention of her grandmother, Evelyn Adler, a wealthy and controlling woman who wants to nurture Mary's talent at all costs. She believes that Mary's future lies in solving complex mathematical problems and attending a specialized school.
Uncle Frank, who is determined to honor his sister's wishes for Mary to have a normal childhood, fights against Evelyn's plans. The custody battle over Mary's upbringing ensues, forcing both sides to confront their beliefs about what is truly best for the young girl.
As the custody battle unfolds, "Gifted" ultimately emphasizes the significance of finding a middle ground between nurturing talent and allowing a child to experience the joys of a normal childhood. In addition to the theme of parenting, the film also explores the impact of loss and grief on a young child and the healing power of family bonds.
