Handsome Bull Festival
The Handsome Bull festival, despite its unusual name, honors a handsome bull in a wooden frame, upholstered in cloth or leather, and decorated with a bull's head with mirror in the eyes, body ornaments, and a string tail. This character is danced by a man who moves and dances skillfully to attack the women who dance next to him.
The Handsome Bull festival is also adorned with bulls, prickly pears, Antón's mirror-clean demons, and the bull encutarrá, in addition to the "handsome gaur." This last custom dates back to the abolition of slavery, when bullies or thieves put heather plates on these animals in order to steal them without their owners' knowledge.
Handsome Bull Festival is the most famous festival in Panama, not only that the festival is very attractive and unique when it honors handsome bulls. In particular, the festival also offers the best opportunity for festivalgoers to learn about Panamanian culture and traditions, which is why the Handsome Bull festival has become one of the known festivals to the most in the country.
