Hutchison Telecommunications
Hutchison Telecommunications Australia Limited (HTAL) is a listed company incorporated in Australia holding a 25.05% equity interest in TPG Telecom Limited (ASX: TPG). CK Hutchison Holdings Limited (CKHH) is a major shareholder of HTAL.
In 2003 HTAL, through its brand 3, introduced Australia's first third generation (3G) mobile telecommunications network.
In 2009, HTAL and Vodafone Australia merged their telecommunications businesses (3 and Vodafone) in a 50:50 joint venture called Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited (VHA). The merger in 2009 created a larger scale business bringing customers 3 and Vodafone together under the Vodafone brand in Australia. The merger also brings together the global expertise, scale, research and development capabilities, and support of Vodafone Group Plc and CKHH to provide the best possible service experience for Australian customers.
Vodafone Hutchison Australia Pty Limited was converted into a public company on 19 June 2020 and renamed Vodafone Hutchison Australia Limited. On June 29, 2020, VHA changed its name from Vodafone Hutchison Australia Limited to TPG Telecom Limited (TPG Telecom). In June 2020, VHA merged with TPG Corporation Limited (previously listed on ASX with stock ticker “TPM”). The merger established Australia's third fully integrated telecom operator in Australia - TPG Telecom. TPG Telecom operates several leading mobile and internet brands including Vodafone, TPG, iiNet, Internode, Lebara and AAPT, providing consumers with a comprehensive portfolio of fixed and mobile products in the telecom market through Australia.
