Imperial Treasury
The Imperial Treasury holds an extensive collection of treasures compiled over centuries. Among the items on display are the Imperial crown, orb, and scepter of Austria, the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire, and various valuable gems – including one of the world’s largest emeralds. The most important treasure in the world, Vienna's Imperial Treasury, is home to two imperial crowns as well as the Burgundian treasure and the treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece. The Imperial Treasury houses an extraordinary collection of insignia, coronation vestments, and mementos telling the long story and tradition of the House of Habsburg as one of the most influential dynasties of the Christian Occident. The Imperial Treasury, located in a part of the Hofburg Palace built in the 13th century, is one of Vienna’s most important attractions that it houses the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian Imperial Crown, and other Habsburg treasures of immeasurable value. At the Imperial Treasury, the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation is the highlight of the collection that was created in the second half of the 10th century, it was used to crown the empire's emperors. The octagonal crown was highly symbolic and decorated with numerous biblical references. The second important crown in the Imperial Treasury is the Austrian imperial crown. It was made in 1602 as a private crown for Emperor Rudolf II.
