Isle of Wight, the United Kingdom
The Isle of Wight is a county, and the largest island of Great Britain, located in the English Channel, about 3–7 km on average off the south coast of Hampshire, separated from Great Britain by a strait called the Solent. The island has several resorts, which have been holiday destinations since the Victorian era, and is known for its mild climate, coastal scenery, and verdant landscapes of fields and lowlands and chines.
The Isle of Wight may not be the most famous spot for a summer vacation, but it's worth a visit. Although its history dates back to the Paleolithic, its popularity grew in the 19th century, when Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert built Osborne House, a beautiful Renaissance palace in Italy, and made it their winter home.
