Jack Johnson

Over a century after receiving a posthumous presidential pardon, Jack Johnson continues to enjoy widespread renown as the best boxer to ever do so. Johnson, the first Black heavyweight champion and creator of the out-door fight, was more than just a punch, uppercut, or jab. Jackson possessed skills beyond of only under-the-belt maneuvers. While he had unquestionable abilities for the ring, he also had the concept and the technical know-how to create a better wrench, which he had secreted away in the treasure cave of his mind.

While incarcerated in Kansas, he created an improved wrench, which was patented in 1922. Johnson's wrench earned the moniker "monkey wrench", and the term "monkey" has come under scrutiny as Black people object to the racist epithet that is frequently applied to them. Others, however, contend that Johnson's race had nothing to do with why the epithet "monkey" was associated with the wrench. The assertion that the name "monkey wrench" was chosen because Johnson was an African American is untrue; it is true that boxer Johnson received a wrench patent while he was incarcerated, but his patent was only for modifications to an already-existing wrench and had nothing to do with a monkey wrench.

. Johnson made significant improvements to a tool, and he was rewarded for it with a patent. He did not create the tool first, after all. Before Johnson was even born, wrenches have been around for a very long time. In reality, nearly 35 years before Johnson was born, the first wrench received a patent in the 1840s.
