Jajce

The village of Jajce is known to tourists for its 2nd century AD temple, the Jajce Mithraeum, as one of the well-preserved ancient monuments in Europe. The temple is also a Bosnia and Herzegovina National Monument, and travelers may view it via protective glass walls and up close by entering the Ethnological Museum of Jajce. The AVNOJ Museum, the Ruins of the Orthodox Monastery, and the 22-meter waterfall are all must-sees in Jajce.

Jajce is one of the most popular entry points to the northern Bosanska Krajina region's lakes and gorges. Back in town, visitors will find a plethora of interesting museums, subterranean tombs, attractive Bosnian-style painted-timber homes, and, of course, the unmissable citadel that sprawls over the town's central hill, a relic of the town's medieval history.

Jajce is a popular tourist destination known for its numerous wooden Turkish water mills that are photographed and advertised along the Pliva River's rapids. Nearby lies the Pliva waterfall, which flows into the Vrbas gorge. On the Pliva and Vrbas rivers, two hydroelectric power plants are located, and an electrochemical facility manufactures calcium carbide.
