Jazz to the Streets
Every year, jazz literally takes to the streets in Mercedes, in the department of Soriano, for this festival. This festival was founded in 2007 by artists and neighbors and has since grown to become well-known throughout the country. Around 140 musicians come here to perform on a free outdoor jazz stage that attracts both Uruguayans and tourists from all over the world. As you walk down the street, you will notice musicians performing in improvised bands in various parts of the city. The idea is to bring jazz music to the city and encourage people to explore the city by following Mercedes's sounds rather than just concentrating on one stage.
The second festival is one of Uruguay's most famous jazz music festivals. Jazz to the Streets, which has been held in Mercedes since 2007, is one event that allows jazz musicians from all over the world to perform in public. The number of spectators is not insignificant; the main stage was recorded as having 2500 spectators every day for about a week during the Uruguay celebration.
