Patria Gaucha Festival
First week of March, Laguna de las Lavanderas, in Tacuarembó. Every year the criollos recreate, arount the fire the daily environment of the gaucho, and they tested in front of a jury. It is a great festival on Saturday, as it produces the traditional “gaucho parade”, with the participation of more than three thousand horses.
It is not only a large festival in Uruguay, but it is also the most famous festival. During the Patria Gaucha festival, there is also a traditional Gaucho parade with over three thousand horses participating. Not only that, but the Festival features traditional dance, live music, poetry, food and drink, art and anthropological exhibitions, contests, and presentations. Military display, speech, parade, fireworks, large bonfire, shopping, gaucho show with sheep, horse, and cow, drums, dog show, humor, theater, religious celebration, horse races, horse auctions, and award ceremonies. The organization is so large that every March, thousands of Uruguayans, Argentines, and Brazilians of all ages flock to the great lake, Laguna de las Lavanderas, to immerse themselves in its shared heritage, culture, and history. As a result, Patria Gaucha is regarded as one of Uruguay's most famous festivals.
