Milk Festival
The next festival is the Milk Festival that’s held at Cardal, the largest milk production site in Uruguay, found in the South Florida district. During this festival, people celebrate by making big Asado, which is a traditional food made of grilled meat that has a massive size so that everyone can get a piece. In addition, they also make Arroz con leche, which is a dish in the form of rice that has been processed with milk, of course with large portions as well. There are also celebrations with music and dance parties complementing the festivities.This area of the country produces milk, and they celebrate the production every year with a big celebrity party.
The Milk festival features shows, music and dance, but mainly focuses on food. It starts with a large asado, in which large pieces of beef are grilled on a griddle to ensure there is enough for everyone. The main attraction of the festival is the dessert, arroz con leche, a traditional Uruguayan delicacy made of rice and milk that is served in large quantities. The recipe, which serves 6,000 people, calls for 1,000 liters of milk, 150 kg of rice, 200 kg of sugar and 4 liters of vanilla extract. Imagine how big the beef used to cook it is. Milk festival is considered one of the most famous festivals in Uruguay, that's why the festival has a huge organization and attracts thousands of visitors.
