Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck
Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is the fifth and currently reigning Druk Gyalpo or "Dragon King" of the Kingdom of Bhutan after his father Jigme Singye Wangchuck abdicated in his favor.
Khesar was born on February 21, 1980 in Kathmandu. He is the eldest son of Bhutan's fourth dragon king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, and his third wife, Queen Ash Tshering Yangdon. He has a younger sister, Princess Ashi Dechen, Princess Yangzom, a brother, Prince Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji, and four half-sisters and three half-brothers. After graduating from Yangchenphug High School, Khesar was educated at Phillips Academy in Andover and Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, graduating from high school. He then attended Wheaton University in Massachusetts and completed his diplomacy program at Magdalene University in Oxford.
On December 9, 2006, he became monarch at the age of 25, adding to one of the youngest presidents (leaders) in the world. On November 6, 2008, a public coronation took place. The year of the 100th anniversary of the monarchy of Bhutan.
