Kaohsiung American School (KAS)
Kaohsiung American School (KAS) has been a prominent educational institution in Southern Taiwan since its founding in 1988. As a non-profit organization, KAS specializes in providing American-style education to students from kindergarten to grade 12. The school schedule is divided into two semesters, lasting from August to December and January to June.
A board of directors consisting of nine members is responsible for overseeing KAS. Board members serve three-year terms, ensuring a dynamic mix of experience and fresh perspectives.
KAS follows the US educational model focusing on English teaching. The curriculum prioritizes high academic standards, personalized learning, and annual updates to stay current. The high school segment offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP), which strategically prepares students for admission to U.S. universities. For grades 6-10, the Middle School Program (MYP) is implemented. KAS is pleased to hold WASC accreditation and to be a current participant in both CIS and EARCOS.
In the 2023-2024 school year, KAS maintains a dedicated staff of 138 individuals, including 93 teachers. The faculty is diverse, including 45 US citizens, 24 host country nationals, and 24 third country nationals. All teaching staff hold qualifications from their home country. At the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, KAS welcomed 774 students, including 318 US citizens and 456 third-country nationals. KAS has modern facilities, including classrooms, science laboratories, auditoriums, lecture halls, libraries and comprehensive sports facilities. Notably, the school is LEED certified, emphasizing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
KAS's financial structure is mainly based on tuition and registration fees, which account for about 99% of the school's income. The registration fee is set at NT$35,000 and additional capital charges apply. Tuition varies by grade level, ranging from NT$393,400 to NT$455,000.
