Kefalonia
It is by no means feasible to find a list of the world's best-kept secrets without the Greek islands appearing everywhere. There are a number of reasons why the island of Kefalonia should be at the top of any list. First of all, this gorgeous island has a wealth of historical landmarks, from old strongholds to underground catacombs and caverns, in addition to its wonderful beaches. Every landscape, every sight, and every taste tells a unique story of tradition and culture in a place gifted with an exceptional heritage. From picturesque villages to world-famous exotic beaches and from mountainous trails to natural marvels, Kefalonia is an island that turns a vacation into a lifetime experience. Whether you’re a cultural aficionado, family traveler, honeymooner, or seafarer you will, without a doubt, fall in love.
Still, unless you see the magnificent Myrtos beach, you won't be able to appreciate this island's beauty to its fullest. This beach is rarely overrun because it is not entirely accessible by automobile, which is a unique assurance that you will have your own peace and quiet, especially if you visit in May through the middle of June. Although the turquoise color of the sea you frequently see may appear to be the result of an excessive Photoshop modification, it is actually the most authentic color you can get.
Location: in the Ionian Sea, west of mainland Greece.
