A Japanese integrated beverage firm is Kirin Holdings. The Kirin Holdings Company, Limited's subsidiary owns it. Kirin Brewing Company, Limited, Mercian Corporation, and Kirin Beverages Company, Limited are some of its principal operating divisions. A member of the Mitsubishi Group is Kirin.
The Spring Valley Brewery was first created in Yokohama in 1869 by Norwegian-American brewer, William Copeland, and was acquired by the Japan Brewing Company, Ltd, the precursor to Kirin Brewery, in 1885. The Japan Brewery was founded in Hong Kong under the names of W.H. Talbot and E.H. Abbott thanks to a contract mediated by Thomas Blake Glover. A group of Japanese businessmen, including Iwasaki Yanosuke, the president of Mitsubishi at the time, offered financial support for the venture.
