Kuakata Beach

Kuakata is a beach resort on Bangladesh's southernmost coast with a rare visual beauty place where both sunrise and sunset may be watched undisturbed. Kuakata is 320 kilometers away from Dhaka and 70 kilometers away from Patuakhali town. The best way to get from Dhaka to Kuakata is to first travel to Barisal by road, sea, or air, and then take a bus or motorboat to the destination.

The name Kuakata has a mythology attached to it. In the 1780s, after being forced out of Arakan, many Rakhains moved along the seashore. They constructed a well for fresh water because they were without it and were effective in managing fresh water for drinking. As a result, the place was given the name Kuakata.

Kuakata Beach stretches for eighteen kilometers and is three kilometers wide. Along the shore, there is a coconut grove and a protected forest. In the winter, the fishing population congregates here in makeshift settlements to prepare sutki (dried fish) on the eastern coastline. There are numerous picnic areas and a vast shegun (Teak) tree forest. Alipore is the region's largest fishing trading center. Kuakata also serves as a wintering ground for migratory birds. Many people come to Kuakata for the archaeological sites, such as Keranipara, Misripara, and Amkholapara, where there are several historic Buddhist temples. The local rakhain community's rites and ceremonies, as well as many other cultural characteristics, make for a fantastic tourist destination.

Many Hindus and Buddhists visit Kuakata during the festivals of Rush Purnima and Maghi Purnima as a destination of pilgrimage. Bathing in the water of Kuakata, which they consider to be holy, is a key tradition on the occasion. The traditional fairs and the bath are popular with visitors.
