Kuldiga
Kuldiga, one of the most attractive and enchanting settlements in West Latvia, is only a two-hour journey from the capital, Riga. It is a town that has managed to retain its medieval aspect and charm. The architecture of historic homes, hills and valleys, as well as the colors red, ocher, green, gray, and pastelshades, will appeal to you. Regardless of the season, the town keeps its allure all year. Kuldiga has built and continues to maintain a strong connection with culture and art. Kuldga boasts Europe's widest naturally created waterfall (249 m) and is related with several legends and historic events.
The town is famed not just for its spectacular architecture and ambience, but also for having Europe's widest waterfall, Ventas Rumba. You may get the best view of it by standing on the red-brick bridge that spans the Venta River. The bridge, as well as the entire old town, are contenders for inclusion on the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage.
Slowly appreciate Kuldiga; only then will the town unveil its full soul! A plethora of eateries and coffee shops are only around the corner. Jacob, Duke of Courland, brought coffee to the region in the 17th century. The local coffee roastery "Curonia" upholds historic traditions and serves a delicious cup of coffee roasted right in Kuldga. The "Goldingen Room" restaurant is noted for its high-quality European food, artisan pizza, and beautiful interior design. The café "Rezidence Kafe Venta" is a good option if you wish to eat on the outside terrace with a beautiful view of the waterfall. Many modern art enthusiasts visit Kuldga Artists' Residence for inspiration.
Kuldga's Art House hosts a variety of local and international art exhibitions. If you enjoy sculptures, you should pay a visit to Castle Park. Every Friday and Saturday evening throughout the summer, guests may enjoy an open-air theater "Goldingen Knight Cinema" located in the park; simply bring your own blanket or find a free seat.
