La Scuola International School
La Scuola International School was established in 2002 and stands out as a special school that combines the Reggio Emilia approach, International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, and Italian language immersion.
La Scuola is the only school in San Francisco that offers both the Primary Years and Middle Years Programs of the International Baccalaureate. By blending the IB and Reggio Emilia philosophies, the school provides an exceptional learning experience for students.
The IB program provides structure for academics, while Reggio Emilia emphasizes children's innate intelligence and curiosity, allowing them to express themselves using various languages. This approach fosters exploration, curiosity, and creativity, enabling students to hypothesize, prove ideas, and learn through diverse methods.
In addition to the academic structure provided by the IB program, Reggio Emilia equips students with tools to illustrate and communicate their learning. Whether they are creating models or conducting experiments, the atelier (studio) at La Scuola provides students with a wide range of materials and tools to express their knowledge and strengthen their understanding.
La Scuola has two campuses in San Francisco, serving students from Preschool to Grade 8, and a new campus in Silicon Valley for Preschool to Grade 1.
La Scuola's San Francisco campus is situated in the Mission District and occupies a charming Italianate building that previously served as a church and school. Since 2019, it has been the primary location for K-8 students. The Silicon Valley Campus, established in 2022 in East Palo Alto, caters to PreK to Grade 1 students and benefits from its proximity to Hwy 101, Stanford University, and the headquarters of Facebook and Google.
La Scuola recognizes the importance of technology as a tool to enhance inquiry-based learning. Starting from Pre-Kindergarten, students learn coding to demonstrate their understanding, and as they progress to higher grades, they conduct online research to find answers. Technology serves as a valuable resource to support learning at La Scuola.
