Lake Mead National Recreation Area

Nevada's Lake Mead National Recreation Area, one of the Best Places to Visit in Nevada, is a well-liked destination during the warmer months. It is hardly surprising that the cool waters of Lake Mead call in such a heated climate. One of the biggest man-made lakes in the country, Lake Mead was built 80 years ago as part of the Hoover Dam project. You can rent a boat for the day and explore Lake Mead on your own, or you can rent a variety of watersports equipment from marinas there.

Paddling down the Colorado River, which directly feeds Lake Mead, in a kayak from Willow Beach is one of the greatest ways to experience the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Visitors can also take a tour of the Hoover Dam, which includes an educational video and hands-on exhibits.

Outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers can enjoy a vast desert playground at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Visitors can engage in a plethora of water sports on Lake Mead and Lake Mojave, scenic drives or hikes, horseback riding, wildlife watching, camping, and picnicking, all while being surrounded by a breathtaking landscape made up of towering mountains, cactus-filled desert basins, and vertical-wall canyons.

On the serene lakes, you may spend your days canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing, wakeboarding, scuba diving, or fishing. You can even rent a houseboat to tour the beautiful wilderness. A thrilling Black Canyon Raft Tour is an option, as is a trip down the Black Canyon Water Trail in a kayak with a guide. The Hoover Dam and the Clark Country Heritage Museum are nearby attractions.
